Roger Ellwood is Director of the Colgate Palmolive Dental Health Unit, Manchester, England and holds an Honorary Chair in Dental Diagnostic Science at the University of Manchester. The Colgate Palmolive Dental Health Unit, which is nearing its 50th Anniversary, is a unique collaboration between Colgate Palmolive and the University of Manchester. It is funded through grants from the Colgate Palmolive Company and competitive external research grants.
Ellwood has worked at the interface between Industry and Academia for more than 30 years. His Ph.D. was supported by Unilever at University College Cork, Ireland and based on a large scale caries clinical trial. He then moved to the University of Manchester to work on Academic projects sponsored by Colgate.
Ellwod has worked for the Colgate Palmolive Company for over 20 years. Although spending the majority of his time in Manchester he also spent 3 years working at Colgate’s R&D facility in New Jersey, USA. With Colgate Palmolive he has gained wide ranging experience in Corporate R&D including regulatory, safety, legal, marketing and scientific affairs.
Ellwood’s research has focused on caries, fluoride, dental fluorosis and diagnostic science, in particular imaging methods for caries and periodontal disease. He has conducted numerous clinical trials on a wide range of clinical conditions and is the author of around 150 scientific manuscripts.
