Jens Juul Holst is a Professor of Medical Physiology and Deputy Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. He is also Research Director at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, University of Copenhagen. He has pioneered the isolation and characterization of GLP-1 and discovery of the potential of GLP-1 for treatment of diabetes and obesity. Professor Holst is among the most cited European scientists in his field. He has authored more than 1620 scientific papers (currently about 1260 listed in PubMed) which have received > 65.000 citations and he has an H-index of 127 (Web of Science).
