Head of College of Medicine and Health at University College Cork and Chief Academic Officer, HSE, SSW Hospital Group.
The College of Medicine and Health at University College Cork is one of four in the University and hosts vibrant teams of academics and administrators who deliver outstanding research and teaching. The College has close ties with the health service and in my role I am Chief Academic Officer for the South Southwest Hospital Group which incorporates nine hospitals. I look forward to strengthening the links between the University and the Health Service from this position. I moved from the University of Leeds in October 2017. I spent four rewarding years at Leeds where I enjoyed new challenges and opportunities in leadership. I enjoy building high performing teams and leading change to enhance quality. Between 2011-2015 I also worked with the International Association for Dental Research for four years as vice president, president elect, president and past president. Working with the HQ team in Washington and international division and region presidents provided a rewarding opportunity to promote dental research globally. I am passionate about research and teaching and leadership to deliver both. I have published and lectured extensively in Dental Public Health, Preventive Dentistry and Health Services Research. I am currently the Co-ordinating PI of a €6M EU H2020 grant on using administrative patient data to help shift services from the production of treatment to the production of health through an increased emphasis on prevention. The work incorporates individual and system wide feedback on indicators of success in promoting oral health.
