Karim, a graduate of the German school in Cairo (DEO), is a head doctor ‘Oberarzt’ at the Clinic for Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology, Christian Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany, a lecturer at the Oral Medicine and Periodontology Department- Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, Egypt and a member of the Board of Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the Academy of Scientific Research, Ministry of scientific research, Egypt. He completed his DDS degree in dentistry in 2002. In 2006 he obtained the Diploma for the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was elected a member (MFDS-RCSEd). In 2008 he received the MSc degree in Oral Medicine and Periodontology from Cairo University. In 2009 he was awarded a Grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to complete his PhD at the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel. In 2010 he developed and patented a minimally invasive technique for the isolation of multipotent stem/progenitor cells from the human alveolar bone. Dr. Fawzy El-Sayed obtained his Dr. med. dent as well as his PhD degrees in 2012. In 2014 he was awarded the Craniofacial Biology Award from the IADR and the Egyptian State Incentive Award in Medical Sciences. In 2016, he was awarded the IADR young investigator merit award of the implantology group and obtained his Habilitation degree and ‘Venia Ligendi’ in the field of stem cells and periodontal tissue regeneration from the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany. His main point of research is on stem cells and periodontal tissue regeneration/engineering, on which he has multiple scientific publications.
